When Sue Barnes discovered that thousands of schoolgirls were missing up to a week of school every month simply because they couldn’t afford sanitary products, she knew there had to be a better solution.
Project Dignity began with one woman’s refusal to look away.
Drawing on years of experience in textile design, Sue developed an innovative reusable sanitary wear system that restores dignity while creating lasting change. But she quickly realised the challenge went far beyond providing products.
Today, Project Dignity combines menstrual health education, community outreach and sustainable product solutions to help girls remain in school, build confidence and create brighter futures.
What started as one act of compassion has grown into a movement that has impacted thousands of young women across South Africa.
